Challenge 6

What is the third world, and why are some countries developing while others claim to be developed?

In class 15 March we began taking a test about the third world or just the hole world and I realized that I don´t ,or didn’t, know so much about it. Of course I know that countries there are poor and life so different then I am used to live on so many levels but on this test there were lots of questions I didn’t have any idea about.
I like reading the story about what Marcus has been through and seen in his visiting in schools in Eritrea and about how different their methods are there and here in our schools in the western Europe, or at least in Iceland and Denmark what I have seen. I myself want to travel to the third world and see myself how the school are and how they lives are there, I don´t think it is a enough to hear or read about this world / countries to understand how it all work.

We learned that the construction of Third world is made by language and we the industrial countries have the power over the third world countries. Developed countries are richer then the developing countries and there for the developed have the power.
Some countries in Africa, who we call developing countries took a loan from countries in western and cannot pay it back and that’s why they are poor, even thou they have lot of natural resources, I think more than most of the developed countries. But why have the developed countries the money and the power, and does the money give them all the power…
  In the Truman discourse stands:
“Poverty is a handicap and a threat both to them and to more prosperous areas”
AND
In The UN discourses stands
“There is sense in which rapid economic progress is impossible without painful adjustments”

Why do we think we are better than them just because we have more money??

I read on some Icelandic website that average money people from one of the poverty countries in the third world are living is less then a 1 dollar per day but for example average person in Iceland lives on less than  51 dollar per day, (that is almost 2 months salary for person in developing country).
Link on this website I read this on: http://redcross.is/id/1000447
How can we have so much more money than them?
And why are people dying of obesity and hunger/malnutrition in the same world??

These are all very hard questions and it is difficult to answer them and I don´t know the answer but I thought a lot about them and specially after this lesson in Globalization.
